Every four weeks students will have the opportunity to run for President or Secretary. They must create a regular sized poster outside of school to put along the front lower wall of the classroom by the 2nd day of the campaign or they cannot run. They may create fliers or handouts to put on desks or the Take-Home boxes before or after school. They may tell classmates all about the reasons why they would be a great president/secretary during recesses. They may even dress up as part of their theme as long as it does not interrupt class.
They must prepare a speech outside of school prior to 9 am on the last day of the campaign week. The speech is up to them, but it cannot be longer than 3 minutes and will be presented in class . They may NOT hand out money, trinkets, candy, or objects, even if they go along with their campaign theme.
Note: Students are allowed to be president and/or secretary only once. The only exception will be the final campaign reign wherein the candidacy will be open to all.
Birthdays
For birthdays, I will allow the birthday person and one friend from the classroom to eat lunch with me in the classroom. If your child would like to bring a treat to share, it will be distributed during lunch. It MUST be store bought AND individually wrapped.
Classroom Supplies and Donations
I will supply everything they need for the first day of school: crayons, a pencil, red correcting pen, dry erase maker and eraser, a highlighter, scissors, a pack of post-it notes, one glue stick, and a pencil tote for storing all of these in the desk. I will also provide 3 different colored, spiral bound note books; 3 different colored, plastic folders; a calendar for the school year, and labels for designating these for science, math, unfinished work, completed work, power write, book club, morning/bell work, social studies, language arts, and other areas of curriculum. Once these items dry out, break, get lost, are full or empty, or any other situation that requires them to be replaced, this will be the students responsibility. I will have pencils available in my classroom, but I am preparing 5th graders for the rigorous pace and responsibilities of 6th grade.
Some things that are needed in the classroom that students need every day are: hand wipes, tissues, pencil top erasers; individually wrapped, bite sized candy (not hard candy please) or a spectacular writing/coloring utensil that students would love to use. We appreciate your donation.
